Avonwick is a village in the county of Devon, England. It is within the parish of North Huish which had a population of 360 in the 2001 census. In 2015 there are approx. 188 households and over 470 residents in the parish of North Huish. Avonwick has rapidly grown in size over the last few years with three developments. The village contains one of only a few proprietary chapels remaining in the country, a pub and one of the oldest lawn tennis clubs in the world.
The River Avon runs through the village directly behind the Avon Inn- its name derives from avon meaning river, and wick an old word for village, but it was not so named until the 1870s, previously being known as Newhouse.
Close to where the river leaves Dartmoor a dam was built in 1957 to form the Avon reservoir. After leaving the moor it passes through South Brent and then Avonwick and Aveton Gifford and flows into the sea at Bigbury-on-Sea.
